IUIH is a not-for-profit organisation incorporated as a company limited by guarantee. We have an eight-member board comprised of a four directors (nominated by our four founding members) and four independent, skills-based directors (nominated by the four nominee directors). These independent directors are leaders in the medical, community health, Indigenous health, academic and financial management sectors. The four nominated directors also appoint the chair.

The Board is supported by two governance sub-committees: Finance & Risk Management and Remuneration & Performance.

  • Stella Johnson
    Current CEO of the Kambu Medical Centre in Ipswich and founding Director of IUIH.

  • Kieran Chilcott
    CEO of Kalwun Development Corporation Ltd, an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation on the Gold Coast and a founding Director of IUIH

  • Andrew Niven
    Director of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Health Service Brisbane Ltd, works in various roles to advance the economic independence of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.

  • The Honorable Paul Lucas FAICD.
    Former Queensland Deputy Premier and Minister for Health. Adjunct Professor, Australian Catholic and Bond Universities. Governance, Infrastructure and Public Policy Specialist – University of Queensland International Development. Director of various community and for-profit companies

  • Maurie Burke
    Retired Public Sector Accountant, currently involved in 2 Board Director positions, and several related finance committee positions. Chair of the Finance and Risk Management committee.

  • Selwyn Button
    Registrar, Office of the Registrar of Indigenous Corporations (ORIC), Current Director of The Lowitja Institute and Queensland Rugby Union. Former roles include - Assistant Director-General, State School – Indigenous Education Dept. of Education Qld and CEO Qld Aboriginal and Islander Health Council (QAIHC).

  • Doctor William Glasson
    AO, Director Terrace Eye Centre, Consultant Opthamologist at various Hospitals, provides outreach services to rural Australian Indigenous population.
