Birthing in Our Community (BiOC) Jajumbora

Jajumbora BiOC is a community-controlled program run by ATSICHS Brisbane. The program offers free maternity care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander woman and families who are birthing at the Logan Hospital.

Jajumbora BiOC is based out of a culturally safe and welcoming community-based hub conveniently located in Logan Central.

The maternity service encompasses the following elements:

  • continuation of midwifery care, with all expected Mums allocated a primary midwife. The midwife will support the Mum through her pregnancy, birthing and postnatal journey and be available 24/7
  • all Mums will be allocated a family support worker who will journey with the family until baby is 3 years of age. The Family support worker will provide ongoing emotional, social and cultural support
  • access to antenatal and educational programs within group or individualized settings
  • access to onsite social worker support and advocacy
  • ongoing care and education from our Child Health Nurse including vaccinations for mums, bubs and partners
  • referral pathways to ATSICHS Brisbane’s programs and services
  • individualised, culturally safe and women-centered care with the flexibility of both hub and home appointments.
  • referral pathways to allied health services such as occupational therapy, speech therapy, child psychology and audiology.

Jajumbora BiOC accepts IUIH Network and external referrals via the Metro South Central Referral Hub: metrosouth.health.qld.gov.au/referrals
