BiOC Child Health

What is a child health nurse?

A child health nurse is a registered nurse and/or midwife who has completed postgraduate studies in child and family health.

Child health nurses are part of our primary health care team. You can yarn with a child health nurse during your pregnancy, once your bub is born, and right up until they are 3 years old.

What can you expect from a child health nurse visit at the hub?

Our child health nurses may:

  • check if they are due any immunisations.
  • check on baby’s growth and development
  • offer infant feeding advice and breastfeeding support
  • offer advice on caring for premature infants
  • guidance on sleeping and settling
  • guidance on responsive parenting and the importance of play.

How do I get an appointment?

No referral is required – just yarn to your family support practitioner or ask reception to book you into an appointment at the clinic or have a yarn on the phone.
