A tribute to Gordon Langton from his IUIH family

With heavy hearts, we honour the life and legacy of our dear colleague and brother, Gordon Langton.

Gordy has been a deeply valued member of the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health for 13 years. Since the day he joined us, he brought strength, humour, humility, and an unwavering commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of our mob. Before coming to IUIH, Gordy worked with Yulu Burri Ba as the Health Promotion Manager, and throughout his long career he dedicated himself to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Services, making a lasting and meaningful impact across our communities.

One thing everyone within the IUIH Network knew about Gordy is how deeply he loved his work. He loved what he did every day and, most importantly, he loved working with Mob. That passion was genuine, and it showed every single day.

At a human level, that fierce advocacy translated into quiet perseverance, gentle persuasion, and propa connection. There are many people across IUIH and our Network who thought of Gordy not only as their go‑to person for guidance and mentoring, but also as a reliable friend.

Gordy brought energy, humour and honesty into every room he walked into. Time with Gordy was an opportunity to connect, to learn, and to be reminded of why the work we do matters. He was someone you could always talk to. Gordy made time for people—whether someone needed mentoring, support, or simply a listening ear, he was there without judgement and without hesitation.

His impact will live on through the confidence he built in others, the careers he helped shape, and the countless conversations that made people feel seen, heard and valued.

Gordy’s legacy lives on in the programs he helped shape, the colleagues he supported, and the communities whose lives he touched. We send our heartfelt condolences to Gordy’s family, friends, and community during this time of Sorry Business. We stand with you in grief, in respect, and in honouring Gordy’s journey.
